Meet Zainab

Tallow by Zainab began during a time when my skin was really struggling. My skin barrier felt damaged and, no matter what I seemed to use, I felt like I was only making things worse.

A friend suggested I try tallow. I had actually gone down the tallow rabbit hole back in 2020 and researched it extensively, but over time I’d forgotten about it. Her suggestion brought me straight back to it.

Rather than buying a ready-made product, I decided to learn how to make my own. I wanted to know exactly what was going into it, so I researched the process, sourced my ingredients and made my first batch at home.

As I tend to do, I shared what I was making on my personal social media. At the time, most people followed me for my furniture flips and everyday content — this was simply another little project I was sharing along the way.

Around three months later, the difference I had seen in my own skin was incredible. When it was time to make another batch, I shared my experience and the feedback with my followers. I had a few extra jars, so I offered them to anyone who wanted to try one.

Those few jars became 10. Then 20. Then 50.

I genuinely thought it might just be a phase, but the orders kept coming. Then came the messages, repeat customers and people sharing their own experiences with the products. Eventually, I realised I needed somewhere other than my social media inbox to keep up with everything — and Tallow by Zainab became an actual website and an actual business.

What started in my kitchen as something I made for myself has grown into a range of handcrafted tallow skincare and a community of customers and stockists across Australia.

And despite how much it has grown, one thing hasn’t changed:

 

I still make my products myself, in small batches, with the same care

and intention that went into that very first jar.
